Animated industrial short

A young couple live in the country several miles from town. Their only maid, dissatisfied with the lonely life, leaves the house without any other notice than a note, telling the mistress she is leaving and will put the back door key under the back door mat. The wife, left alone with her baby, receives a telephone call from her husband saying he will not be home until late and asking if she will be safe. The wife answers that she will be, and later, when she discovers the maid’s note, although fearful of being alone, determines not to alarm her husband. She locks the house securely, but afraid to go around the house to get the key, leaves it outside. Helen, informed of the danger which menaces an excursion train because another engine on the same track is running wild, mounts a motorcycle and speeds down the track to warn the passengers of their imminent peril. Nearing a river trestle under repair, she hurtles into the river; undaunted, she swims to the opposite bank and flags down the excursion train in the nick of time, causing the engineer to run his train onto a siding just a few moments before the runaway dashes by.

Trixie Thompson concludes that the only way she could save her sister from dying of the “white plague” is by preventing the autumn leaves from falling. Little Trixie knows all this because she had heard her elders say that those troubled with weak lungs usually begin to suffer and probably die when the leaves begin to fall. Winifred, Trixie’s older sister, is on the verge of contracting tuberculosis. Tlie little girl loves her sister too much to let her die, so one night she steals into the garden in her “nightie” and fastens the fallen leaves with twine and hangs them up on the trees. Trixie keeps a rigid vigil for months and all the leaves that fall in the garden are replaced on the trees. In the eastern part of New Mexico is locate the little mining town of Gatlach. There, however, we find an active mining camp dependent largely upon the famous Gatlach mine for its existence. Living in the camp we find Florence, who is loved by Jake. Florence, too, loves Jake. A new superintendent arrives to take charge of the mining property. The new arrival meets Florence and the man and girl fall in love. Discontent among the Mexican and half-breed miners develops. They mutiny, coming to the office making demands which the super promptly refuses and orders them from the place. The ruffians withdraw to arm themselves and then plan an attack upon the office and the death of their boss.
