Tobias Simms (James Craig) is torn between his criminal career as the masked bandit named the “El Paso Kid”, and the life of a law-abiding citizen with his long-suffering wife Zoe (Lynn Bari). Throughout the film, he tells his worried wife “just one more time”, but is unable to stop, angering Zoe greatly. However, he does have brief moments of heroics when he helps the Widow Weeks (Una Merkel) save her farm. This was Eagle-Lion Studios first big budget film.

The Government has approved Betty Castelar’s Spanish land grant and notification is sent via pony express. Porter is after her ranch and waylay’s rider Buck Carson to get the letter. Left to die in the desert, he is saved by Castelar’s horse and brought to her ranch. When Porter later arrives, a peculiar mannerism lets Buck identify him as the gang leader and he vows to get the letter back.

His first conquest is the banker’s daughter who helps him loot the bank in exchange for a promise of marriage; he wanders over to the saloon and runs the crooked partner of the proprietress out of town, takes all of his-and-her money and leaves her, between kisses, hounding him for her share; the third one, the saloon singer, actually makes a mark out of him as she cons him into a boxing match against a professional fighter and he loses the fight and his money, but he holds the singer and the fighter up as they leave town and gets his money back; and then he romances and swindles Cattle Kate, a replay of what he had done somewhere before to Kate and the “gotcha-again” Kate even ends up behind bars. Sartana, bounty hunter and gunfighter, witnesses the robbery of a shipment of gold. He finds his way into town where he meets with a lot of suspicious stares from the locals. He also meets with Samuel Spencer, who seems to own the company in this company town. The gold shipments are being stolen, so Spencer agrees to hire Sartana to protect the next gold shipment. Numerous dull-witted villains make attempts on Sartana’s life, but he survives. Eventually, Sartana’s nemesis Sabbath (he of the white coat and parasol) rides into town. With a showdown inevitable, Sartana and Sabbath square off
