A little girl’s father is killed because he has a hidden gold mine and the killer wants it. The little girl has the map to the mine but doesn’t know it. Everybody else knows it but doesn’t know where it is. The little orphan-girl gets “adopted” or “looked-after” by Don Adios and his two sidekicks, who search for the killer and save the gold mine for their ‘protege.’

The head of the Hayden family tries to avoid more killing but the inevitable showdown has to occur, complicated by Lynn Hayden and Ellen Colby’s plans to marry.

Movie cowboy Tom Ford (Gene Autry), star of Mammouth Film Productions, goes on vacation before Wilson (William Newell), studio publicity man, can notify him that he is to make a personal appearance at the 1936 Texas Centennial celebration in Dallas.Unable to locate Ford,the desperate Wilson substitutes Fords exact-double and stunt man,Gene Autry (Gene Autry again.) Gene goes along only to help Wilson out but wants to reveal his true identity throughout the hoax. Enroute to Dallas, Gene’s car and trailer collide with the cattle truck of Marion Hill (Kay Hughes), turning losse a herd of steers she is hauling for show purposes. Gene unloads his horse Champion (Champion, or at least one of them) and rounds up the cattle. Gene, still posing as Ford and singing over the radio (although Ford is not a singer) is a sensation. Cherokee Charlie and Snake, a french-accented whip-wielder, are selling rifles to the Indians. To stop this, the Army sends agent Andy Thomas, who poses as a sombrero-wearing renegade. Andy, Charlie and Snake converge on a wagon train which is under attack. Pa Carteris killed and Andy is attracted to his daughter Sue, and makes a buddy out of her kid-brother Dickie. Andy, claiming to be from Taos, proves he a real cyclone of the saddle by riding Cherokee’s horse, and winning him on a bet. This ticks Charlie off,and he has Snake attach a knife to the end of his whip and kill two Indians to start an uprising. Andy’s job now becomes even tougher.
