Briscoe leases land from Latimer. When oil is found Latimer tries to stop Briscoe from renewing the lease. Tom arrives and fights off Latimer and his men to renew the lease. But Latimer is not done. Now he shoots Briscoe, kidnaps Buddy, and blames Tom who is arrested and put in jail.

Bad-boy Sam Elliott sweet-talks the sheriff’s unappreciated wife into helping him escape from jail. The resulting chase across desert country is no more than routine, but Vera Miles as the wife gives the film a touch of depth as an older woman who — unloved at home — falls for the manipulations of a younger man. A small town sheriff’s repressed, fortyish wife is flattered into helping a young prisoner escape the gallows. Their flight is complicated by an orphaned Indian baby and the young man’s waning interest in his accomplish. Western with a feminist touch.

When Joe Kirk the Indian Agent is murdered, His adopted son Tom Kirk heads out after the killer. Finding gambler Honest John with his father’s ring, Tom arrests him. But Honest John found the ring on the floor when Crandall, the real killer, played in his card game. Crandall kills Honest John to keep him silent. But Tom now finds the clue that will lead him to the killer.

Mountie Preston is even more determined to “get his man” when he goes on the hunt for the bad guys that killed his partner. Written by Robert Emmett Tansey. Dir. Robert Emmett Tansey
