The program shows an evening hosted by Bob Hope, during which the Elia Kazan anti-union picture On the Waterfront took top honors with eight wins out of twelve nominations, including the prize of Best Picture, while its star, Marlon Brando, won his first Best Actor Oscar after four consecutive nominations. Kazan garnered the Oscar for Best Director as well, while Grace Kelly received the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in The Country Girl. This video also features nominees such as Humphrey Bogart (for The Caine Mutiny) and Bing Crosby (for The Country Girl).

Uncompromising and rigid, he battled the studio system for control over his pictures' content, and his career had many ups and downs as a result. Through interviews, photos, and archival footage, The Man You Loved to Hate explores von Stroheim's career. The title refers to von Stroheim's frequent casting as a German villain in films of the early 1940s. Von Stroheim's last famous acting role was in Billy Wilder's Sunset Blvd.

A filmed broadcast of the Command Performance radio programs in which various Hollywood stars appeared and performed in accordance with letter requests from American service men stationed around the world. Transcriptions were made of each program and sent to American posts and camps around the world. This entry (Army-Navy Screen Magazine No. 20) was broadcast and filmed at a live performace at Camp Roberts, California. Lana Turner, via a request from a group of soldiers, fried a steak, which was brought on stage accompanied by armed guards since this was a rationed and rare item during the war years. Betty Hutton sung "Murder, He Says" and Judy Garland did "Over the Rainbow", and all three guest stars swapped quips and banter with emcee Bob Hope, with Hope usually on the butt-end of the jokes.
