Robot Monster may well be the worst science fiction film ever made (Plan 9 From Outer Space is its main competition for that dubious honor), but that doesn't mean that it isn't fun to watch. Filmed in an eye-straining 3D process, this curious melange takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. Evidently, there are only six people left on earth: little Johnny (Gregory Moffett), his sisters Alice (Claudia Barrett) and Carla (Pamela Paulson), his widowed mother (Selena Royle), his supposed father the Professor (John Mylong) and the prof's assistant Roy (George Nader). As the survivors wander around Bronson Canyon, the Professor comes to the conclusion that the rest of the world has been wiped out by a "calcinator death ray," wielded by an army of creatures from the planet Ro-Man. The invaders are supposed to be killer robots, but they look more like gorillas in diving helmets (that's because gorilla impersonator George Barrows supplied his own monkey suit when the robot costumes proved too expensive to build). Ordered to kill the six survivors, the head Ro-Man balks when he (it?) falls in love with Alice. The tenor of the film can best be captured by this vignette from Ro-Man's main soliloquy: "To be like human! To laugh! Feel! Want! Why are these things not in the plan? ... I cannot -- yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do 'must' and 'cannot' meet?" And don't forget Ro-Man's "intergalactic table": a ham radio that blows bubbles. Robot Monster is a must-see for any and all devotees of truly bad cinema.

The revival of the dead astronaut, the death of a scientist, and the discovery of alien embryos inside the resurrected astronaut's body bodes ill for the survival of those trapped at the base and the rest of humanity.

Dr. Conway has perfected a machine which he believes will predict earthquakes, and has determined that one will strike California within 24 hours. He and his patron, Dr. Morton, attempt to convince the Governor but he cannot bring himself to declare an emergency when there is no proof the machine works - which, within 24 hours, it is proven to do. More significantly, Conway is getting readings which indicate a series of additional, pending quakes around the world, which also begin to occur; and more still seem to be on the way. With his assistant "Hutch", to whose love for him he seems oblivious, Conway takes his equipment to the deepest point of Carlsbad Caverns, in hopes that being closer to the center of the earth will help discern the cause of the earthquake epidemic. It does, when they inadvertently discover a new element which lies dormant in watery pools deep within the earth but, when in contact with air, becomes violently explosive. Forces unknown appear to be pushing this element surface-ward around the globe, and a computer analysis determines that enough will be exposed to explode the entire world within a little more than 28 days...

Assembled by the same production team responsible for the minor sci-fi classic Rocketship X-M, Unknown World isn't quite in the same league as its predecessor. The plot is set in motion by Dr. Jeremiah Morley (Victor Kilian), who theorizes that mankind could save itself during a nuclear attack by resettling far beneath the earth's surface. To prove his theory, Morley builds the Cyclotram, a combination drill and exploratory vehicle, with the financial assistance of playboy Wright Thompson (Bruce Kellogg), who insists upon joining the expedition to the earth's core. After several hair-raising adventures, the Cyclotram and its surviving passengers reach a cavern nearly 2000 miles beneath the surface. The cavern contains all the necessities of survival save one: the atmosphere renders anyone living within its walls sterile. Deciding that it isn't worth hiding in the center of the earth if only one generation will survive, the explorers endeavor to get back to the surface -- but who will survive this journey? The obligatory female lead in Unknown World is played by Marilyn Nash, who'd been discovered by Charlie Chaplin for the 1947 film Monsieur Verdoux.
